It was obvious to see which units were redone, which ones were in process, and which had not been touched on the outside. When we arrived at the unit, it was evident that at least the outside of the unit had not been redone. When we arrived, the guy who checked us in said that our unit had been remodeled, or refurbished, or some similar word. There is a great restaurant (Bella's) and a Food Lion within one minute of the resort. First, let me say that the location of this property is great for Grandfather Mountain, Banner Elk, Beech Mountain, Blowing Rock, and Boone (farthest away).
The front desk called us about a week before our stay to make sure we knew there was no pool anymore. After reading some of the reviews for this property we were a little worried but hoped for the best. We were excited to find accommodations fairly last minute for Labor Day weekend. If you plan to stay here this year, I recommend waiting until next year as this resort should be very nice after the renovations. It took us about an hour to get though the last twenty miles to the resort. Also just an FYI, traffic is horrendous in this area. Plenty of kid family activities at the clubhouse. Keep in mind if you're elderly, disabled or injured there are no elevators. I don't think they have much of a housekeeping staff. The trash can lid we thought was stained, but it was just dirt which we cleaned. The kitchen floor is weak in some areas and the tile is cracked. The kitchen is small but does what it's designed to do. The carpet is not just stained and dirty it's just plain nasty. We had to wash all the silverware and dish prior to use. The bathrooms were clean, fresh towels and bedding, but there's where it stops. Unfortunately dirty is not synonymous with outdated. Building #9 where they put us is outdated, which I can deal with since they are updating the units. The resort is currently under renovation and will really be nice in about a year with a new pool and other amenities. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Nice scenic area, beautiful mountains, water falls and great state parks nearby.
